One of the perks of being in New York City is the tremendous access to museums and art exhibitions. I am in art land and loving it! My plan is to see as many as I can before I head back to Montreal and share my experience with you! Are you ready for the ride? The first one I visited was “Role-Play” at Phillips, an art gallery and saleroom in Midtown Manhattan. It was after a Sunday brunch at Lavo with my new NYC friends. A delicious Italian restaurant that I highly recommend for brunch or dinner! Remembering for a second now… The fried Oreos we had for desert :)
It was on a warmer and very windy day in the city. I decided to let go of my winter outerwear and wear my beige trench coat. I have had it for a few years and never seem to get tired of it. Its high-low skirted shape gives it the appearance of a dress which allows you to wear it inside as well. Another reason why I love it is because of the collar, that you can raise to create a sharper look. Also, having your waist narrowed and accentuated with the belt is a definite plus! If you want to switch it up, you can make it more casual by wearing the trench with jeans, a knit sweater and scarf and by keeping it open. There are endless options to play with! I opted for a more elegant version by pairing it with the suede booties and hat.
I don’t know about you, but the weather has a considerable impact on my mood and on how I dress! The grey skyline on that Sunday had me drawn towards earthy tones of beige and browns, instead of color. I was in a calm and subtle mode I guess! When it came to my makeup, I kept it simple too with a nude palette. The only color I added was the burgundy on the leather clutch, for a little ray of sunshine! Lately, I have been attracted to the mix of shades of the same color, particularly neutrals. I find the look to be soft yet crisp! You can create a low or high contrast with the different hues, depending on how you are feeling. Neutrals are anything but dull! What do you think?
Fashion and photography go hand in hand. To be able to see the artistic mixture of both worlds at this exhibit was impressive! “Role-Play” presents three decades of trailblazing images from acclaimed international fashion photographer Steven Meisel. His bold and pioneering style has been evolving ever since he was an illustrator for Women’s Wear Daily. He has collaborated with major fashion publications from US and Italian Vogue to Vanity Fair, Interview and W Magazine. I am sure you will recognize a lot of his photos, as I left a glimpse of his work in this post. Today, his photographs continue to lead the dialogue in fashion photography!
What about you? Have you visited any galleries lately? I want to know all about it!
Have a great week everyone :)
