Yesterday marked the last day of New York Fashion Week. And what a week it was! I was looking forward to being in the fashion capital during this event for a while! I followed its coverage every year from Montreal, with style magazines and websites, social media and TV. But being in the city while it was happening was beyond phenomenal! The city that never sleeps became a huge party and we were all invited!
The Lincoln Center, where most of the shows were being presented and all the other venues were buzzing with celebrities like Sienna Miller and Rihanna, fashion icons like Anna Wintour (editor-in-chief of American Vogue), tons of photographers awaiting to take pictures of the street styles and the invitees as well as top fashion bloggers and my personal favorites Negin Mirsalehi and Chiara Ferragni. The fashion and street styles were over the top and were elevated to another level than your usual NYC. Don’t get me wrong, the Big Apple is well know for it’s stylish people, but in the last 7 days, it was a public creative runway, where everything and anything was allowed! Not only that, but you couldn’t wear the same ensemble if you were attending more than one show in the same day! People changing outfits in the Starbucks' restroom in between shows was as normal as ordering my coffee!
The biggest challenge was to stay warm yet über fashionable in this frigid weather! And the crowd did not disappoint! Layering, layering and more layering were a must to survive! And layer from head to toe we all did! I was all over town that day and one of my pitstops was near the Lincoln Center where I was having lunch with a friend before heading to our Parsons School of Fashion class. Black being my favorite color, I sported it from head to toe. But, I feel the flower ruffles of the skirt created dimension and the pompom beanie brought a bit of fun to the outfit! The cobalt and black coat as well as the navy/green plaid oversized scarf were my touch of color and structure. We all know some old rule that states to never mix navy and black! Right? Well… These two colors are neutrals and combining them I think, brings more depth to the look. Do you agree?
Since I was pretty much running from one place to the other, I wore my new favorite moccasins from Zara! They are comfortable and perfect if you are on-the-go. As for the bag, I opted for a burgundy crossbody, which is super practical and added warmth to the attire. This was a casual look, but you can make it more elegant by switching the moccasin for high heeled boots and the beanie for a fedora! What do you think?
I will post another one of my looks during fashion week very soon! In the mean time, I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
As for you NYFW… I will see you in September :)
