The month of March is approaching and I feel like my time in New York City has gone by so fast... I can’t believe that I am going back to Montreal in less than a month! Every week I am discovering new facets of the fashion world and falling in love with it even more! If that is possible! Through my creative work in my Fashion Styling class, inspirational guest speakers in my Professional Practices for Fashion class, NYFW, various culturally driven events or simply by the streetwear in NYC, I cannot express how motivated and genuinely excited I am about my future in this industry! Because, there is no going back now! Bob Marley said it perfectly:
As I am settling back into my student life this week, my style is more laid-back. I need to be comfortable when I am running errands, going to a class and meeting up with friends in the same day. There is a lot of walking to do in this city! And you know what… Surprisingly, I don’t miss my car! One of the items I love and find perfect for those busy days going around town is a cape. I get tired of wearing coats in the winter and how many can a woman have? Really!
Capes and oversized scarves are very on trend this fall/winter season and are very versatile. I find them to be a great alternative to winter coats, that allows you to be effortlessly fashionable, adds polish to your look while keeping you warm! It’s not as heavy and can be worn with pretty much anything. You can sport it with skinny jeans and high heels to make it more formal or with leggings and flat boots if you want to go more casual. I decided to choose the second option because my feet needed some rest! Whether you are going for a chic or an urban look, I suggest that the bottom part of your outfit be slim, since the top is voluminous. You don’t want to be overwhelmed with layers! To balance mine, I opted for faux-leather mix panel leggings and a turtleneck, both in black to accentuate the stripes. Simple and cozy!
The sandy color ankle booties were the perfect fit that day because the color complimented the beige of the cape and kept the look casually comfortable. My feet were very happy :) To finalize the attire, I selected a shoulder bag for the practicality, the hobo vibe and also for the fringes, which were a nice reminder of the ones on the poncho. Now, I have to be honest with you… I couldn’t help myself but twirl while I was wearing it :) It’s made for that! Don't you think? So twirl in the middle of the street I did ;)
Cape it, be happy, twirl and channel the superwoman in you!
