The winter is still going strong with the snowfalls and polar temperature that don’t seem to end. Today marks the third winter storm in three weeks in New York City! It’s a good thing I am immunized against the cold weather as this it not too much of a shock for me, coming from Canada. I sympathize especially with my fellow Quebecers who have it hard this season!
Being a true Montrealer, I have mastered the art of layering clothes to keep warm during this harsh period of the year. But what I enjoy the most about winter fashion is the headwear! As you might have noticed in my pictures, I am often wearing different headpieces. I feel it’s an accessory that can revamp any outfit! To wear great garments is fabulous but I believe that accessories are the final touch necessary to emanate a dashing look!
I have always been and still am a fan of hats! I associate it with femininity and how a woman embodies grace and elegance. I believe I get that feeling from what I have seen in magazines and throughout fashion history. Looking back at it, this accessory never ran out of style! Mode was always influenced by financial and social changes and this item of clothing evolved with it. In the 18th century, Marie-Antoinette was known for her dainty attention-grabbing hairstyles. During the World War I period, military influenced hats where the norm as well as the modernized and rebellious women’s close-fitted cloches in the 20's. From Coco Chanel’s liberating styles and pillbox hats in the 60’s, to the grunge floppy ones of the 70’s, to their popularity during weddings and special events in the 80’s after Diana, Princess of Wales, used them to sophisticate her persona; hats were always a statement piece in a woman’s wardrobe.
In the pictures below, I featured my top contenders for winter hats. The anorak and fur hood is required in every Northern American woman’s wardrobe, so she can brave the cold with flair. The fur earmuffs are perfect to shelter the ears from the freezing wind but also for not ruining your hair! I highly recommend them if you are going out on a date ;) The tuque, of course, is the best option for a comfy day out running errands or going to watch a movie. It allows for a mix of pompom fun and warmth! As for the Russian kubanka, it’s simply a statement piece! Are you ready for it? Finally, nothing is better than an angora beanie, my favored fabric of the winter, to make you feel safe and snug!
I am happy to see that today's fashion industry is still acknowledging the value of this beautiful accessory and introducing it in their collections. It’s up to you to choose the models you like and style them to your personality. Remember... Hats accent the face and focus on a woman’s most beautiful features; her eyes and her smile. So, let your inner beauty shine girls!
Time for a hot and warm coffee :) Have a great week everyone!
