Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday and I am dedicating this post to her! You have read about her in past articles when I wrote about how much she has influenced my love for styling and fashion! She is without a doubt the quintessence of beauty, sophistication and femininity! But today, I want to express how she has impacted my life in ways she doesn’t even realize and how she taught me to be the kind of woman I am!
She taught me to be confident! Ever since I was a little girl, she has told me every single day, how beautiful I was! She showed me how to come out of my shell during my teenage years, pushing me to be the first girl on the dance floor and to embrace having people’s attention instead of fearing it. She is the one who taught me to be generous simply by being the perfect model of that! Our home was and still is an open house for everybody around us. Receiving family and friends on a daily basis is common in our household. Whoever comes to our home doesn’t leave empty handed and giving back to others is second nature. I always remember how we would drive to church every few weeks to give clothes, shoes, food, everything we could think of to people in need. And to this day, I cannot throw anything away… If it is reusable, it will be given to charity! She also taught me to see the good in every single person and to try to understand why they would have a darker side, instead of judging it.
She taught me what it was to be a woman! To this day I remember the sex talk we had when I was 12 years old! We were sitting on the terrace of our house in Laval on a bright sunny summer day. She took a paper and a pen and explained the whole thing with drawings and detailed information. And, I am not talking about the birds and the bees’ story! I mean the REAL thing! She was so at ease explaining it that she made me comfortable asking questions. And, she did a great job answering them! She also taught me how to be a sexy, confident, yet respectable lady! That it is more attractive to be a powerful independent woman next to your man than one that is a step behind and needs him to provide for her. How important it is to live a passionate love story, to be loving and affectionate, to look good for your partner on a daily basis and to keep the spark alive, whatever your age… She showed me how to embrace my femininity and vulnerability without thinking I was weak! She has influenced me in such positive ways and for that I am extremely grateful!
The look I am posting today is a reflection of how I perceive my mother, which is as my sweet angel! I love the vibe of an all white outfit! I believe you can wear it every season! I personally like to sport it in winter and spring. Depending on the fabrics and the cuts of the clothes you choose, the look can be very soft or super edgy! I was looking for a relaxed attire so I opted for a mix of delicate fabrics such as lace and cashmere. I find these materials to be very feminine and graceful. Don't you agree? I also think it’s better to accessorize with neutrals so they don’t clash with the white. This is why the silver loafers and the cream purse complimented the outfit very well and kept it looking pure! The Aztec inspired necklace was my touch of modernity :) And, when it came to my makeup, I kept it simple with subtle nude colors. How do you like this style?
Mom… Thank you for being such a loving mother, a strong woman, an attentive friend and simply a wonderful generous human being! I am lucky if I can be one percent of who you are! I love you more than words could ever express! Happy birthday xxx
