After I attended the Sainte-Justine Ball last weekend, I had a lot of questions about the outfit I wore. So I decided to share with you all the details of this look! For those who don’t know, the Sainte-Justine Ball, formerly know as the Mount-Royal Ball, is a fundraising event organized by the Young Leaders Circle to raise money for the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation. With the money raised, the Foundation will be able to provide more resources and treatments to help and heal mothers-to-be and children. It was a fun evening where I got to dance to the grooviest music and enjoy cocktails with friends and over 1000 young professionals, media representatives and artists. And all that for an amazing cause! The best part about this specific event is how it is one of the few ones in Montreal where you can let your inner fashionista all out :)
For the occasion, I opted for a maxi skirt and a cropped top. I actually ordered the skirt as soon as I saw it on the Nasty Gal website a few month ago. Didn’t know when and where I would wear it, but I knew I had to have it! I fell for the sheer black mesh and feminine rose embroidery. The built-in under-shorts as the only coverage is quite daring you would say… And it sure is! But there is nothing more fun than being unapologetically sexy ;) If you haven’t discovered this fashion destination yet, now is the time! It’s a website where you can find unique, fashion-forward and hip vintage pieces. When I chose to wear this skirt for the ball, I needed a simple top to pair it with, since I was going for an edgier look. This is why mixing prints was a great way to keep the outfit trendy and the stripped cropped top and its complementing colours was the best choice.
You might have noticed the brooch on my back. Well… I have to confess how that came about. As I was finishing getting dressed, I felt the straps were a bit too loose and not supporting the cleavage well. I didn’t have time (running late as always) to start shortening them, especially that I am not the best seamstress out there! I can barely sew a button! So, the first thing that came to my mind was this old trick where you use a safety pin to bring bra straps together. I wasn’t going to walk around with a safety pin on my back… but a cool tiger brooch could and did work ;) It wasn’t planned!
Let me know what you thought of this look! How would you wear that edgy skirt?
